The effects on music rope-skipping activity for the slow learners¡¯ sociability and academic perform

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to illustrate the effects on music rope-skipping activity for the slow learners¡¯ sociability and academic performance. Fifty slow learners, 25 experimental and 25 control group who are third graders attending two different elementary schools in Jeju city were participated for this study. The measurement tool used in this study was redesigned as a questionnaire based upon Personal Value Scales by Scott, Personal Value Scales by Jeong Bum mo and another questionnaire by Jeong sun woo. The questionnaire was including five sub-titles such as patience, concentration, self-control, good behavior, and cooperation in the field of sociability. To check out their academic performance, Standard Academic performance scales for all graders which were distributed by Jeju self-governing provincial office of education both in November, 2006 and in March, 2007 and the checklist for slow learners were used. The results of this study were as follows: First, it is found out that music rope-skipping activity had an effect on slow learners¡¯ sociability. More specifically, compared with control group, experimental group showed some improvement in 3 sub-titles out of five in terms of sociability after treatment and made a significant difference to the statistics. In short, music rope-skipping activity turned out to be effective in slow learners¡¯ developing their patience, self-control and cooperation. But it proved to be hardly effective in sub-titles like concentration and good behavior. Second, music rope-skipping activity had an affirmative influence on slow learners¡¯ academic performance as well. Although in the subject of math, it made no difference in their academic performance, music rope-skipping activity turned out to improve their academic performance in the subject of Korean Language.
